Huge
Immigration Raid
But No Management Arrested
By Daniel Muniz
When the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency conducted
one of the largest single-site raids in its history, which netted
almost 400 illegal aliens in Potsville Iowa, not a single company
official faced any criminal charges. So how can the management of
such a large corporation not know what was going on?
It is this kind of glaring omission that makes the crackdowns by the
federal government on illegal workers such a farce.
The Agriprocessors Inc plant that operated in Potsville Iowa had
more than one third of its work force apprehended in this raid, yet
the entire management is fat, dumb, and happy in which nobody knew
that anything illegal was going on. As a result, no manager or owner
will be spending time in a courtroom. Of course there will be huge
fines to be paid but nobody in management is going to be sitting in
a jail cell.
Now here is some interesting information about that Agriprocessors
plant:
•
Based on 2007 fourth-quarter payroll reports, about 78 percent
of Agriprocessors' 968 workers were using false or fraudulent
Social Security numbers in connection with their employment. •
Agriprocessors was notified by the Social Security
Administration in five separate letters of 500 Social Security
number discrepancies for each tax year from 2000 to 2005. • A Department of
Transportation investigation found that an Agriprocessors
supervisor was forcing workers to buy cars from him and
allegedly registered the cars under falsified identities. An
investigator found at least 200 cars were bought in this manner.
● Of those arrested, 297 pleaded guilty and were sentenced. The
guilty pleas included use of false identification documents to
obtain employment, false use of a Social Security number or
cards and unlawful re-entry into the United States. • About 60 of the workers
taken into custody were released for humanitarian reasons and do
not face criminal charges, while 20 others were detained on
immigration violations only and face deportation proceedings

Perhaps the most frustrating thing for me is that there are
millions of people who are genuinely outraged by illegal immigration
yet they still feel that America is being invaded by illegal aliens.
To me, that is a real disconnect with reality because it is
blatantly obvious that each and every illegal immigrant has been
invited to this country.
Even though it is extremely rare for the management and the
ownership of a company to ever get prosecuted, they still jump
through all kinds of hoops to ensure that illegal workers have low
paying jobs in their facilities. Big business and small firms alike
have crafted so many ways to for illegal aliens to have employment
but the worst thing about it is that these jobs are no longer under
the table but out in plain sight for everyone to see.
Although a verification process has been set up and it is
continually being upgraded, all that is needed are social security
numbers to be plugged into it. It is totally irrelevant if the
government tells a company that there is something suspicious about
the eligibility of certain employees because it will take years
before anything comes of it. And even if it does, like a raid
performed by ICE, nobody in management is going to be arrested or be
held liable in any way and it has been that way for too many
decades.
In addition, it is completely ridiculous that a site can have 78
percent of its work force using bogus or stolen social security
numbers yet the employer is completely oblivious to the fact that so
many of their employees are here in this country illegally. These
upper managers and owners just smile because they have been blessed
to find so many people who are more than willing to work for so
little money while their competitors have to pay much higher wages.
What it boils down to is that all of this a racket.
Employers know full well what they are doing yet they can still
laugh all the way to bank because they also know that they are not
going to be criminally punished. Consequently, there is absolutely
no incentive for them to obey the law because they aren’t going to
be prosecuted. Instead, they have a chance to make a lot more money
with a work force that is about one notch above serfdom so they
completely exploit it.
And worse, the companies that do play by the rules are at a severe
disadvantage because they cannot compete against the outfits that
pay these depressed wages in hazardous work conditions. It’s not as
if these illegal workers are going to complain to anyone about how
they are being mistreated or getting ripped off at the work place.
As for me, I am sick and tired of all of the outraged Americans who
continue to blame the illegal aliens but overlook the role that the
employer plays in illegal immigration. In the chicken or the egg
game, it is the employer who came first, not the illegal alien. And
if employers are never going to get punished, they will continue to
keep inviting millions of illegal aliens to this country because
they are cheap source of labor.
It is time to stop saying that America is being invaded by illegal
aliens!
As long as the blame is chiefly centered on the illegal immigrant,
then employers will keep screwing America.
After all, these business people are more interested in enriching
their bottom line instead of worrying about the country dealing with
an unsustainable flow of illegal immigration that is filling our
streets with criminals, overcrowding our schools, and bankrupting
our hospitals.
These managers and owners who are flouting our immigration laws need
to be sharing a jail cell with Big Bubba while serving out a ten or
twenty year prison sentence. And until that happens, we never will
be able to completely control our border or our illegal immigration
problem because these companies still keep inviting them to come to
America.
